Day 2 – Easter Island (Sample Itinerary)

Tongariki, Rano Raraku & Anakena:

Visit the ruins of the temple of Akahanga, where the hats of the moai are the outstanding feature; they lie where they fell when the platform was destroyed. Continue to the volcano of Rano Raraku, where all the moais on the island were carved out of the rock. Climb to the edge of the crater of the volcano to appreciate the small lake inside and moais scattered about the inner slopes in various stages of construction. Continue to Ahu Tongariki, where many of the huge moais were toppled by a large “seaquake” in 1960. Finally, the tour ends at Anakena beach with its two beautiful Ahu. Time for a bathe in the sea before returning to Hanga Roa in the afternoon. Overnight.

Overnight: Hotel Altiplanico Rapa Nui (B/L)

Day 3 – Easter Island (Sample Itinerary)

We invite you to follow in the footsteps of the first King of the Island, the Ariki Hotu Matúa. It is said that his fate was determined by a dream which took him to Easter Island to begin the period of colonisation. In this full day tour, we will visit five archaeological sites. In the morning, we will have the honour of visiting Akahanga, Rano Raraku and Ahu Tongariki, important places for the Rapa Nui culture located on the south coast. From the earliest times to the present day, they invite us to be part of the history of an archaeologically rich culture. At the end of our first tour, we invite you to lunch at a Rapa Nui family house to experience the benefits of our gastronomy. The house features a garden with typical trees of the area.

After lunch, begin our second part of the tour. Our guide will take us to Te Pito Kura which contains the largest Moai on the island, 10 metres high and 90 tons. This archaeological site is also known as the navel of the world. Our last steps are reserved for Anakena, one of the most important beaches in the history of Easter Island. Legend has it that Hotu Matua, the first king of the island, landed on this beach and started one of the most amazing megalithic cultures that this world has known. At this very place, we will meet two ahus and their corresponding Moai, a unique landscape that cannot be missed. At the end of the tour you will spend some time to rest and enjoy the white sand and crystal-clear waters of Anakena.
