Day 1 – Reykjavík
Arrive in Reykjavík, Iceland and enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure.
Overnight: Reykjavik
Day 2 – Thingvellir, Gullfoss & Geysir (B,D)
Visit Thingvellir National Park, ancient site of the world’s first parliament before seeing the continental drift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Head to the Geysir Geothermal area and plant a tree to reduce your carbon footprint as part of Iceland’s Reforestation program.
Overnight: Hvolsvöllur
Day 3 – Vik, Dyrhólaey & Kirkjubæjarklaustur (B,D)
We visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls and enjoy the views and impressive birdlife of Dyrhólaey headland. Stop in the quaint village of Vik before crossing the Mýrdalssandur volcanic ash outwash plains and Eldhraun lava field, the world’s largest single lava flow.
Overnight: Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Day 4 – Jökulsárlón & Skaftafell (B,D)
Drive towards Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier, enjoy majestic icebergs in Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon and maybe opt for a boat tour. We drive-pass several outlet glaciers and magnificent Skaftafell National Park.
Overnight: Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Day 5 – Landmannalaugar (B,D)
In the Fjallabaksleid interior, be mesmerised by surreal deep valleys and mossy mountains, formed by volcanic eruptions from the Ice Age. Opt for a bath in a warm brook formed by hot and cold springs.
Overnight: Tjórsárdalur area
Day 6 – Sprengisandur (B, D)
We travel through Iceland’s hidden treasures, via rough tracks, unbridged glacial rivers and rugged passages between glaciers
Overnight: Lake Mývatn area
Day 7 – Tjornes, Asbyrgi, Dettifoss & Lake Mývatn (B,D)
Discover the horseshoe-shaped canyon on the Tjornes Peninsula and learn about Norse mythology. See powerful Dettifoss waterfall, enjoy birdwatching at Lake Mývatn and experience unique mud pits and lava fields.
Overnight: Lake Mývatn area
Day 8 – Akureyri & Skagafjordur (B,D)
Enjoy free time in Akureyri, then continue on to the Skagafjordur district, the traditional heart of horse breeding in Iceland. Enjoy horseback riding on a purebred Viking horse (optional).
Overnight: Laugarbakki area
Day 9 – Hvammstangi, Eiriksstadir & Snæfellsnes Peninsula (B,D)
Travel through rolling farmlands to the Viking Age house at Eiriksstadir, original home of Erik the Red and birthplace of his son Leif Eiriksson. Learn about traditional Viking lifestyle before continuing to the Snaefellsnes peninsula.
Overnight: Snaefellsnes area
Day 10 – Snæfellsjokull National Park (B)
Explore Snæfellsjokull National Park and Djúpalónssandur seascape. Observe basalt rock and hike through settlements of of Arnarstapi and Hellnar before driving back to Reykjavík.
Overnight: Reykjavik
Day 11 – Departure (B)
Your tour ends after breakfast.
