Richard’s fascination with wild places was born after he was given a set of black and white Frank Hurley’s photos as a child. This sparked his interest for a career working in nature. He now has over 20 years’ experience working in environmental management of National Parks and World Heritage Areas and is currently based in the south-east of Tasmania.
Richard completed a Degree and Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management. He volunteers as a guide when he’s on leave and has led many teams on adventures around the globe. Richard has summited Mt Kilimanjaro on two occasions and hikes and bikes at any opportunity he has.
Recently appointed Station Leader with the Australian Antarctic Division and was previously fortunate to work for a year as Ranger in Charge at the subantarctic Macquarie Island. He is inspired by wild places and feels honoured to assist in stewardship of Australia’s reserve estate. Richard aims to focus his career on advocating for the parks and protected areas by sharing his knowledge and appreciation of the natural world.
